JOB DESCRIPTION

Works well with inter/interdepartmental situations.  Effectively communicates and resolves problems with those in decision making positions.  Strives to implement changes effectively that are a result of these interactions.  Reevaluations programs implemented as a result of these decisions.

Administration/Physician – Handles suggestions and criticisms from administration and physicians by seeking solutions to all problems. Effectively communicates with administration and medical staff in the presentation of these solutions

Develop policies, procedures, rules and regulations of the Medical Record Department.  Develop goals and objectives of the department in keeping with the organizational goals established by administration and the governing bodies of the hospital.

Oversee the day-to-day operation of the department through one-on-one communication with the staff.  Handle problems concerning matters outside of the department when necessary.  Integrates department’s services with the hospital’s primary functions.  Coordinates and integrates services within their department and with other departments.

Develop, maintain and supervise procedures for maintaining confidentiality of medical information for the hospital.  Develop, maintain, supervise policies and procedures for the release of medical information.  Interpret medicolegal problems.  Represent the hospital in course cases involving subpoenas for medical records, utilizing knowledge of medical jurisprudence and the laws of the State of MA governing the use of clinical records in court action.

Participate in hospital committee functions to include but not limited to Quality Council, IDT, Compliance Committee, and Forms Committee.  Participate as a trained facilitator for the Performance Improvement Teams.

CERTIFICATIONS 

RHIT or RHIA required

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 3 years experience in the healthcare field including involvement with performance improvement activities and Joint Commission requirements.  Experience working with physicians preferred. A minimum of 1 year’s managerial experience.

EDUCATION

B.S. Degree in Health Information Management or related healthcare field with experience in the healthcare field where general knowledge of quality management/performance improvement and Joint Commission standards was required.
